ROLE

Registered dietitian and nutrition consultant based in Mauritius.

About

Food first, always.

Yovanee Veerapen is a registered dietitian and nutrition consultant in Mauritius, as well as the founder of NutriSmart Consultancy. Her work steps away from strict dieting rules and back toward something more human: informed choices, cultural familiarity, and habits people can return to with confidence. She works across consultations, corporate wellness, school nutrition, food consultancy, and clinical practice at Health Centre Labourdonnais and Care Medical. The through-line is always the same: evidence, context, and food that still feels like food.

Health can stay generous, sensory, and recognisable on the plate.

Role

Registered dietitian and nutrition consultant based in Mauritius.

Practice

Founder of NutriSmart Consultancy, with work spanning clinics, schools, and organisations.

Method

Evidence-led guidance shaped by local ingredients, lived context, and sustainable change.

Focus

Long-term health that respects culture, appetite, routine, and the realities of everyday life.

Current work

What I'm building

A more editorial feature spread: one major kitchen image, one branded audio moment, and a calmer sense of momentum rather than stacked modules.

Cookbook

My Mauritian Kitchen

A cookbook shaped around healthier Mauritian recipes made with local, affordable ingredients. Familiar food stays central; the shift is in the thoughtfulness of the method, not the loss of pleasure.

It is both a practical cooking project and a personal argument for a more realistic kind of nutrition: flavour, culture, affordability, and care on the same page.

Audio

The Podcast

Conversations about food, health myths, guest perspectives, and the everyday negotiations behind eating well. The visual treatment is quieter here too, integrated into the work rather than isolated as a side card.

Approach

“It's not about the food. It's about the life the food is part of.”

01 Food-first, not fear-first

Nutrition guidance begins with what nourishes you, not with an endless list of what to cut away.

03 Evidence over trends

A clinical lens helps filter out noise, extremes, and fast-moving wellness narratives that rarely serve people well.

02 Built around your life

Advice is shaped by routine, family, access, and preference so healthy choices remain genuinely possible.

04 Sustainable, not strict

The goal is not temporary compliance but a lasting relationship with food you can inhabit without guilt.

Media

In practice

Editorial features, interviews, and talks that extend the same calm, evidence-led voice beyond the consultation room.
